Biography

Tran V. Hai worked for Vietnam’s Supreme Court from 1989 to 1990, and for Vietnam’s Supreme Procuracy from 1990 to 1993. In 1994, he joined the Hanoi Bar Association and established the first ever law firm in Hanoi under the name “Affiliate No. 1 of Hanoi Bar Association”. Thereafter, law firm changed its name twice, “Hanoi Law Firm” in 1995 and “Tran Vu Hai Law Office” in 2002. 

Tran V. Hai and his law firm have a range of clients including thousands of private enterprises, hundreds of state owned enterprises and more than ten local banks and financial institutions. He also serves foreign invested companies, international organizations and diplomatic missions based in Vietnam. Tran V. Hai has wide experience in acting as a defending counsel for clients in hundreds of commercial, civil, criminal and labor lawsuits before local courts of all levels in Vietnam. He has also provided legal advice on international business transactions involving matters governed by Vietnamese law. 

Tran V. Hai and his law firm expanded their legal practice by developing professional cooperation with Coudert Brothers (USA), Deacon Graham & James (UK and Hong Kong), DS Pollack (France) and Freshfield (UK). 

Tran V. Hai has actively contributed to the drafting of laws, including the Law on Enterprises, the Penal Code, the Ordinance on Bidding, the Law on Lawyers, the Regulations on BOT and many other business regulations.
